Kids Driving You Crazy? Bring them out to Jefferson Railway
Kids driving you crazy? Bring them out for a narrated ride on an antique train along the historic Big Cypress Bayou in Jefferson, Texas. Enjoy the excellent view of the wetlands, piney woods and wildlife along the river in the open-canopied observation cars. Most of the train rides include a stop at Diamond Don Gator Pit to view daily feedings of live alligators, with photo opportunities.
Historic Jefferson Railway will only be running select weekends through September 2, 2023. There is a lot to do in Jefferson so be sure to include a ride on the train in your plans.
The train recreates the Golden Era of railroading aboard an antique gas-powered locomotive with narrated historical day trains. As you roll through the history laden Piney Woods, you’ll view a Confederate Powder Magazine and traverse the site of one of the oldest, historical towns in Texas, with ruins from the 1800’s. Learn about the unique ecology of the area and hear a tale or two about Bigfoot.
Easter Egg Express will run on April 8 at 12:30 and 2:30. Each ride will also offer a FREE Easter Egg Hunt for ticket holders under 12, after each train returns to the depot.
The train will run every Saturday in May with special events: May 6 will honor the 76th Pilgrimage “Celebrate Spring” Tour of Homes and many other events in town; on May 14, treat your Mom for Mother’s Day.
Mothers receive a 10% discount when accompanied by their children; the Great Locomotive Chase and Civil War Train Battle features a Living History at Diamond Don RV Park on May 19 and train rides at the depot on May 20 and 21. May wraps up with Memoria Day Express on May 27.
Bring your Father out to Father’s Day Express on June 17. Fathers receive a 10% discount when accompanied by their children.
There will be a special schedule to celebrate July Fourth weekend. The train will run at 12:30 and 2:30 on July 1, 2, 3 and 4. Every ride will include stop at the gator pit!
The last train of the summer will run on September 2 at 12:30 and 2:30 to celebrate Labor Day.
Bring your RV or tent camp at Diamond Don RV Park just a short one mile from Jefferson, on the Big Cypress Bayou, keeping you close to the action. Beautiful wooded sites with lots of wildlife. Many of the RV sites have views of the Big Cypress Bayou. Showers, rest rooms and dump station. Launch your kayak or canoe right from the park. Enjoy fishing off the banks of the river.
